After birth, it is always a good idea to have your foal examined by a veterinarian. This allows our doctors to see if there are any developmental issues that need to be addressed. We can also test the foal for passive transfer to make sure they obtained enough antibodies to jump start their immune system.
Examining the mare after foaling allows us to make sure she did not sustain any injuries from birthing. Your veterinarian will also check for a retain placenta, which can cause several health issues.
