Veterinarians

Dr. Jaime Miller

Dr. Miller is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up surrounded by animals and began riding and showing horses at the age of 14. She attended Truman University and received a B.S. in Animal Science. She graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in May of 2005. Dr. Miller began working at Oakwood Veterinary Service immediately after graduating and assumed ownership in January, 2010. Her professional interests include small animal surgery, behavior, ultrasound, and equine reproduction. Her family consists of her husband, daughter, and son, along with dogs, cats, horses, sheep, and chickens.
In her free time, Dr. Miller enjoys riding and showing reining horses, and spending time outdoors. “I enjoy going to work every day, and working with such a committed and caring staff. I believe I can enrich the lives of my clients by enriching the lives of their pets. I try to make sure they live a long, healthy, happy, life.”

Dr. Jane Fixen

Dr. Fixen is a native of Independence, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri- Columbia, earning a B.S. in Animal Science in 1991 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Following graduation, she joined Oakwood Veterinary Service in May of 1996. Her professional interests include small animal medicine, preventative care, owner education and pain management. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, Lee, and two daughters.

Dr. Deke Carls

Dr. Carls of Port Byron, IL grew up working with western performance horses. He graduated with a B.A. in biology from Augustana College and then earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2009. Dr. Carls joined the team at Oakwood Veterinary Service in June of 2009. His professional interests are in equine medicine and field surgery. He especially enjoys lameness exams, diagnostic imaging, and pre-purchase exams. He is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, and Illinois Veterinary Medical Association.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and their pets (dogs, cats, and horses). He also enjoys volunteering with the local fire department. Dr. Carls also has a strong interest in Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue.

Dr. Elizabeth Hilton

Dr. Hilton is a native a Loves Park, IL and started shadowing at Oakwood in 2012, during her under-graduate college years at Augustana College. Dr. Hilton went from a student career shadow, to a kennel technician, to a veterinary assistant before starting vet school in 2016. She graduated Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 and wanted to work in mixed animal practice. She worked for 2 years as a mixed animal vet and loved the experiences and the practice. She later decided she wants to focus more on small animal and equine medicine. Dr Hilton lives on a hobby farm with her husband, Matt, and their variety of animals that include horses, goats, alpacas, cattle, chickens, dogs, and cats. In her spare time, Dr Hilton loves trail riding with her horse, Bullseye, and camping with their dogs, Nash and Collin. Dr Hilton says, “I’m excited to come back “home” to Oakwood Veterinary Service and provide care for everyone’s furry family members!”

Retired - Dr. Richard Rock

Founder of Oakwood Veterinary Service

“Doc” received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan in 1971. For 17 years, he served as a resident veterinarian at a local horse farm owned by Tish Hewitt. Dr. Rock was also employed by the State of Illinois as a racing official at The Quad City Downs. “Doc” assumed ownership of the clinic and started what is now Oakwood Veterinary Service in February 1995. He remained the owner until December 2009. “Doc” continued to support the clinic as a part time veterinarian, until he officially retired in late 2022.

Technicians

Stephanie

Stephanie has been a veterinary technician since 2004. She joined Oakwood Veterinary Service in March 2008. Her primary position is the equine technician, but also enjoys small animal care. She currently lives with her husband Matt, son Myles, and her yellow lab Georgia Lynn.
In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys showing her horses, watching her husband compete at stock car races, dog sitting, renovating homes, and spending time with family and friends. “Being in the veterinary field gives me a chance to share my passion and love for animals with each and every patient I see.”

Ashley

Born and raised in Seatonville, Il, she moved to AZ in 2012 where she attended Pima Medical Institute for their veterinary technician program and graduated in 2014. Since then, Ashley has moved back to Illinois in 2016 and joined the team at Oakwood Veterinary Service. Ashley enjoys spending time with her two Pitbull mix dogs, Baloo and Bonnie.

Danielle

Danielle started her career working with animals at Oakwood Veterinary Service as a kennel technician when she was 17. She was trained as a veterinary technician and continued working here for 6 years. Danielle left in 2010 to start a family, but rejoined the team in 2018. She works part time at the clinic and homeschools her 2 sons. They share their home with their dog Sierra, and cat Mavis.

Shawna

Shawna joined the Oakwood family in 2018 after graduating from the Muscatine Community College Veterinary Technician Program. She is our resident “Cat Lady” and enjoys working with all of our feline patients and parents. She lives with her fur-babies; Lola, the German Shepherd, Tucker the grumpy cat, Cookie Monster the food goblin, Dakota the old man, and her special-needs kitty, Aspen.

Jillian

Jillian has been with Oakwood Veterinary Service since December 2019. She was born in Ohio, moved to Wisconsin before finally settling in Illinois. Jillian attended the veterinary technician program at Joliet Junior College and is licensed in the state of Illinois. She has a special interest in equine medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys ridings horses, hiking and training her dogs. She shares her home with 2 dogs and 2 horses.

Jaime

Jaime joined Oakwood Veterinary Service in July of 2020. She grew up in the Milan- Rock Island area and graduated from Rock Island High School. She furthered her education by pursuing a degree as a Certified Veterinary Assistant at Stratford Career Institute, where she graduated with high honors. Jaime has worked as a CVA in the greater Quad-Cities since 2006. Jaime has two beautiful children, Lana and Jake, along with Dexter (Doberman) & 2 cats Stanley and Johnny. Jaime loves kayaking, riding her ATV,camping, being outdoors, Marvel (especially Iron Man) and her truck.

Mackensie

Mackensie joined Oakwood in early 2022 after completing the Veterinary Technician program at Muscatine Community College and obtaining her certification as a Veterinary Technician. In addition to her small animal work, Mackensie is also training to be an equine technician. Born and raised in Iowa, Mackensie shares her home with 2 horses, 2 cats, and her senior dog Wheezy. She enjoys being around friends and family, riding horses and attending concerts.

Alicia

Alicia joined Oakwood in August 2021 as a part time technician. She was born and raised in Galena, IL before moving to Denver, CO to attend Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She graduated with her Associates Degree in Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology in 2003. She has been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2004. Outside of the clinic, Alicia owns her own business, Masters of Accuracy, and enjoys spending time with her family.

Maddie

Maddie joined Oakwood in 2020 as our kennel tech and worked her way up to becoming a veterinary assistant in 2022. Maddie enjoys being on her family farm and tending to their chickens, ducks, and goats. Maddie has 2 dogs she loves very much, Paisley and Winnie. Her favorite hobbies include creating artwork, hiking, and breeding her beautiful golden retrievers.

Reception

Ericca

Ericca is a native of Colona, IL. She has been with Oakwood Veterinary Service since 2011. She chose to work here because of her strong devotion to animals and client care. She is currently working towards a degree in Human Resource Business Management. In her spare time, she works at a local animal shelter and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Debbie

Debbie has been with Oakwood Veterinary Service since June 2011. Debbie is a native of the Quad Cities and currently lives in Moline with her husband. She enjoys having the opportunity to work with people and their pets.

Abby

I have been with Oakwood Veterinary Service since January 2018. I am dedicated to making the patient and client care the best it can be here at Oakwood. I enjoy spending my time with my family and continuing to work at being the best version of me!
