Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is used to treat tendons, ligaments and wounds. Current research is also showing significant benefit of the use of PRP in joints as well. Platelets are rich in growth factors that help repair tissue and ligaments more quickly and improve the quality of tissue healing. Blood is drawn from the patient and spun in a centrifuge where PRP is cultivated and harvested. The platelet rich serum is then used to treat the injury. The PRP is usually injected in the area of the injury. The PRP increases the effectiveness and efficiency of the growth factors speeding up the healing process.
